Asbestos cement-based materials that were once commonly used as internal walls and ceiling linings contain around 15% asbestos fibres by weight. If possible, this kind of asbestos cement product should be removed unbroken. If you discover that such material has sustained damage while still in place, it can be reinforced by using duct tape.

Removal procedure

1

Safety First

Safety First

Ensure that all workers are wearing the correct safety respirators and disposable overalls for asbestos removal.

2

To catch debris and protect the floor or scaffolding, spread layered plastic and tape it around the perimeter. Ensure the plastic is not a trip hazard when working on scaffolding

3

Prepare double layered plastic on which to stack your asbestos product.

4

Remove all brackets, screws and bolts that are holding the asbestos product in place and then remove the asbestos product

5

Using a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner, vacuum the wall and flooring areas where possible. If removal took place on grass or garden all debris must be removed.

Bonded Asbestos Removals

What is Bonded Asbestos?

Bonded (Class B) asbestos is less immediately dangerous than Class A and is part of a fibre-cement product. The asbestos is in bonded sheets where it’s deeply embedded in a hardened matrix. The sheets may be flat, corrugated or tubular.

As per the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2011, an independent competent person is needed to undertake a clearance inspection and issue a clearance certificate following any Class 'B' asbestos removal jobs.

Friable Asbestos Removals

What is Friable Asbestos?

Friable ACM is any material that contains more than one percent asbestos by weight or area, depending on whether it is a bulk or sheet material and can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by the pressure of an ordinary human hand.
